Factors Related to Nurses attitude toward Aged


Abstract
The Purpose of this study were to measure nurses¢¥ knowledge of aging and to find the relationship between knowledge and attitude toward aged. Attempts were made to find other variables that. might influence nurses attitude.
One hundred and forty six nurses working in a large teaching hospital were given the questionnaire contains The Kyung San Facts on Aging Quiz to measure level of Knowledge of aging and a semantic differential scale to find the direction of attitude toward aged.
The Hypotheses were tested, and results are;
1) There was s no relationship between nurses attitude and the knowledge of aging and aged.
2) There was significant difference in nurses attitude score according to different age groups (P<0.05).
3) There was significant difference in nurses attitude score according to different groups of clinical experience (<0.05)
The nurses attitude became more negative as clinical experience increases, but the direction of attitude was reversed after 8 years of clinical experience.
4) There was no significant difference in nurses attitude score according to the levels of education, facts on aging quiz score, experience of Gerontological education or personal experience with well elderly.
